Shows: Gaithersburg '06

Showstoppers! A show like Gaithersburg always has things going on other than table sales. Unexpected items -- "walkin-ins" -- show up, new deals are made, and old deals are finalized. Making a great find is often a matter of being in the right place at the right time, but that possibility is one of the benefits of attending the show. Here are a couple of showstopper items that never made it to a table.

Above. This brasstop, bellbottom lantern was made by (we think) the "Brady's Malleable Iron Company", noted for the unique disk cutouts in the base. The top is stamped "C&O RR" for the Chesapeake & Ohio Railroad (note "Railroad" not the later "Railway"). Shown above are various views, including one next to a C&O stove for scale.
Above. This number plate is from steam locomotive #303 owned by the Richmond, Fredericksburg & Potomac Railroad. Shown above are various front and back views of the plate.
